Sixth Form
The Sixth Form at Oaktree School is a very important place to be. Not only are our Sixth Formers' role models to the younger students showing how to behave in all aspects of school life, but it is also a time for preparing to move on to the challenges beyond school.
Time in the Sixth Form therefore, is a mixture of academic studies, learning to be independent, work experience opportunities, independent travel training, enterprise projects and helping out as monitors around the school.
The majority of our Sixth Formers go on to local colleges to study courses of interest to them. Careers advisors regularly visit school offering guidance and advice on post school placements, including further education and employment possibilities (Our head of-sixth form is also a trained careers advisor and along with Keisha, our job coach, provides further advice on post-school opportunities) In preparation for this, we have 7 Pathways (see curriculum year 8 to year 14) which occur every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Students will have the opportunity (starting from year 8 but increasingly informing post school options from year 12) within the curriculum, which supports Sixth Formers in forming a view as to future aspirations which are linked to their section EHCP outcomes.
Our Sixth Formers have their own purpose-built Sixth Form base in which they can work, relax and enjoy snacks and meals. School uniform is not required in the sixth form and students are able to choose their own activities when not studying (pool, table tennis, reading and socialising).
