Art
Connect with Your Greatness: The Art curriculum at Oaktree promotes growth across each of the three journeys, supporting students in developing meaningful connections with themselves, their communities and the world.
Journey 1: students engage with a Non Subject Specific curriculum in Art, focusing on communication through creative expression. A primary goal is to support the development of both fine and gross motor skills. Students are encouraged to explore the use of colours and objects, learning to recognise and appropriately utilise them in their artwork. The emphasis is on developing foundational skills in a safe, supportive environment, with each student progressing at their own pace.
Journey 2: integrates Art with Humanities, offering an interdisciplinary approach. This allows students to explore Humanities concepts through artistic activities rather than traditional written assignments. By creating artwork inspired by Geography, History and RE content, students are encouraged to express their understanding and ideas more creatively. This approach promotes engagement and enhances students’ ability to convey complex ideas visually, supporting their development in both subjects.
Journey 3: encourages students to become more confident and consistent in their use of artistic techniques. Students study various artists and art movements, deepening their understanding of artistic history and expression. Through this exploration, students develop an appreciation for the diversity of art while refining their personal artistic skills.
Through these journeys, the Art curriculum at Oaktree empowers students to connect with their greatness by cultivating curiosity, resilience and a lifelong love of learning. Each journey reflects the school’s commitment to holistic development, ensuring every student thrives academically, socially and emotionally.
