Computing

Connect with Your Greatness: The Computing curriculum at Oaktree promotes growth across each of the three journeys, supporting students in developing meaningful connections with themselves, their communities and the world.

Journey 1: Computing is introduced as ‘Technology’, aligned with life-skills education to meet the diverse needs of our SEND learners. Based on the Non Subject Specific curriculum, students engage with real-life experiences through community inclusion. These activities develop essential problem-solving and independence skills while embedding technology into Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) themes.

Journey 2: builds a foundational understanding of Computing, focusing on practical and conceptual skills. Students explore computer networks, algorithms and basic programming using accessible tools like Beebots and stop-motion software. They practise creating animations, using applications like PowerPoint and Word and safely engaging with the internet. Trips into the community reinforce these skills, helping students understand how technology supports everyday life.

Journey 3: equips students with more advanced Computing-related tasks. In terms of programming, learners transition from Scratch to Python, developing coding expertise. They explore multimedia creation, including animations and sound design, while learning about safe social media use. Specialist instructors for KS4/5 enhance students’ confidence in and understanding of technology in today’s world.

Through these journeys, the Computing curriculum at Oaktree empowers students to connect with their greatness by cultivating curiosity, resilience and a lifelong love of learning. Each journey reflects the school’s commitment to holistic development, ensuring every student thrives academically, socially and emotionally.
