Food Technology
Connect with Your Greatness: The Food Tech / Cafe curriculum at Oaktree promotes growth across each of the three journeys, supporting students in developing meaningful connections with themselves, their communities and the world.
Journey 1: students participate in Café lessons where they acquire basic food preparation, drink-making and serving skills. These sessions focus on foundational abilities, fostering confidence and communication within a practical setting.
Journey 2: students engage in both Café and Food Technology lessons, where they deepen their understanding of kitchen safety, explore various cuisines and practice essential food preparation techniques. Café lessons also emphasise customer service skills, with students gaining hands-on experience in taking orders, preparing food and serving. The double lessons within the Café and Food Technology pathways prioritise skill development, equipping students with practical abilities and fostering teamwork.
Journey 3: students advance their skills through focused Café and Food Technology lessons. They learn more complex food preparation techniques, explore nutrition and food science and apply these concepts practically. Lessons encourage independence and responsibility in the kitchen, preparing students for future employability. The double pathway lessons for both Café and Food Technology combine technical and service skills, building confidence and readiness for real-world opportunities in Food and Hospitality sectors.
Through these journeys, the Food Tech / Cafe curriculum at Oaktree empowers students to connect with their greatness by cultivating curiosity, resilience and a lifelong love of learning. Each journey reflects the school’s commitment to holistic development, ensuring every student thrives academically, socially and emotionally.
